About

Fewer, better things for dogs

Unique Dog Finds is a small, independent UK website. We look for thoughtful, unusual and useful things for dogs and the people who love them — and tell you plainly why we chose them.

Why Unique Dog Finds started

Obie was the dog behind it all

Unique Dog Finds was inspired by our love of dogs, and in particular our Staffy, Obie, who was at the centre of our lives for 17 years. As he grew older, we found ourselves constantly looking for simple products and ideas that could make everyday life easier and more comfortable for him.

When he lost the use of his back legs after a stroke, a wheelchair, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and plenty of determination got him walking — and even running — again. Later, steps to the bed and sofa, non-slip mats and raised bowls helped him stay comfortable and independent.

What we look for

Thoughtful, not endless

Search for almost anything for a dog online and you’ll find hundreds of near-identical products. The lovely things — a collar stitched by hand, a bed that’s properly made, a keepsake that means something — are often made by small businesses that are hard to find.

British makers and craftsmanship

We have a strong preference for independent businesses and UK makers: people who design and make things themselves and can tell you exactly what goes into them. We only describe something as UK made or handmade when the maker or retailer says so.

Why personalised finds matter

The things we treasure most are usually the ones made for us: a name on a collar, a portrait of a particular face, a keepsake for a dog who’s gone. See personalised finds.

How we choose

Research, not hype

Our full editorial policy
  1. 01Find

We look for things that are useful, unusual, beautifully made or made for one dog in particular.

  2. 02Research

We read what the maker says about materials, sizes and how it’s made, and what problem it actually solves.

  3. 03Verify

Name, price, link and every claim are checked on the maker’s or retailer’s own page, and dated.

  4. 04Feature

It goes on the site with a plain note on why we picked it — and a link straight to where you can buy it.

Researched or tested?

What we will and won’t claim

We don’t pretend we’ve personally tested every product we feature. We research the options, check the details with the maker or retailer, and explain what to look for so you can make a more informed choice for your own dog.

Where something comes from our own experience — like the steps, mats and raised bowls that helped Obie — we say so. We never show star ratings or reviews we haven’t earned.

How the site is funded

We don’t sell anything

We don’t hold stock, take payments or send parcels. When you buy something you find here, you buy it directly from the retailer or maker, and they look after delivery, returns and customer service.

Some links on Unique Dog Finds are affiliate links. If you buy through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Sponsored content and paid partnerships will always be clearly labelled. Many links on the site are ordinary links that earn us nothing. Read our affiliate disclosure.

Our commitment

Four things you can hold us to

  • We’ll only tell you what we can check.
  • We’ll never choose a product because it pays more.
  • We’ll show when we last checked a price.
  • We’ll correct mistakes quickly — please tell us if you spot one.
